There’s something special about fall in Rochester: crisp mornings, farm stands, and familiar neighborhoods showing off their colors. As we head toward the holidays, I hope you’re finding time for the people and places that make this season meaningful.

Start a “home history” folder
Save service receipts, improvement dates and before-and-after photos. It makes maintenance easier to track and gives you useful details to share whenever you decide to sell.

A home ready for cooler days
A few small tasks now can help you settle into the season with less on your to-do list.
- Keep water moving.Clear gutters and downspouts; direct runoff away from the foundation. Keep leaves out of drains.
- Book the seasonal service.Have the furnace/HVAC serviced and check filters. Arrange an annual chimney inspection if you use a fireplace.
- Check the quiet safeguards.Test smoke and CO alarms monthly; check replacement dates and follow manufacturer instructions.
- Seal out drafts.Check weatherstripping and exterior caulking. Look for roof damage from the ground and attic signs of leaks; use a pro for roof work.
- Beat the first freeze.Disconnect hoses, winterize outdoor faucets as appropriate, and schedule irrigation winterization.
- Prepare for the first snow.Test snow equipment, locate shovels and ice melt, and check that entry lights work.

Our City Mark turns 50 in 2026. Designed by Lee Green and approved in 1976, it combines a water wheel for the “Flour City” with a lilac shape for the “Flower City.” Two chapters of local history in one symbol. [3]
